Unity, the cross-platform gaming engine has become prominent over the last five years. The first version of Unity was developed in 2005. The current version, Unity 4.2, enables developers to build for a wide variety of platforms, now including mobile devices. What’s great about this feature is that developers need only write one set of code which can be set up on different platforms.
This means that Unity has created for itself a way to manipulate the mobile gaming market for its benefit. With the popularity of new tablets and mobile devices, games can be deployed easily across multiple platforms. Thus Unity has gained a significant share of the market.
What’s more, Unity is preparing to launch version 4.3 which will have explicit support for 2D gaming including a 2D scene builder, a 2D physics engine and improved animation tools. For the online gaming industry this means that developers will be able to release their games on different devices simultaneously. In other words, players will be able to enjoy their favourite games on their phone, PC, and tablet.
